History of Beveridge High School

Named after former Omaha Public Schools Superintendent John H. Beveridge, Beveridge Junior-Senior High School opened in September 1963 with 954 students in grades seven through twelve. For a short period of time, the school included grades five and six.

The class of 1964 was the first graduating class of Beveridge High School, with 71 graduates.  In 1965, the last graduating class of Beveridge had 140 students.

In 1965, J. Sterling Morton opened it's doors.  Both junior highs housed Burke High School students until 1967.  During this time, the actual Burke building was constructed.  The class of 1968 was the first graduating class from the new Burke High School without a split campus.  They were also the freshmen class in 1965, making them the last class to attend Beveridge High school, and the only class to attend Beveridge High School, the split campus of Burke and the new Burke building.

With the completion of Burke High School in 1967, Beveridge devoted its curriculum to meeting the needs of students in grades six through nine. New elementary construction was able to absorb the sixth grade in 1975, and with the ninth grade moving to a ninth grade center in 1976, Beveridge continued its tradition of excellence with grades seven, eight, and several ungraded special education classrooms. The current enrollment is approximately 750.
